Community is central to the mission of Indivisible Mohawk Valley; a foundation of their organization is highlighting the connection between activism in daily life and community. Activism is mostly recognized in mainstream media in the way an activist serves causes and others, but there is an unspoken facet of how the activist serves oneself by engaging with the community. Connecting to a community is self care, but that idea can be dampened when communities can feel restrictive, non-inclusive and isolating.

IMV community circles aim to eradicate this problem, by creating a community that aligns with the values of inclusivity, respect and reception. It is a place meant to build friendship between neighbors, a place where voices can be heard. A core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.
